The waist seam sits at the natural waist — at the narrowest part of the torso - image uploaded. It's not quite empire waist — it actually hits at a more natural/high-natural waist position, which is what gives the dress that lovely hourglass shape. Hope that helps, I added the measurement of underarm to underarm too :)
